The grounds crew from UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside planted 10 trees Monday in Frick Park in celebration of Arbor Day.
UPMC collaborated with the park manager and a
city forester to complete the project. The trees, which UPMC Engineering and
Maintenance donated to the city, were planted in a section of the
park where a large number of oaks were removed due to disease.
Four different varieties of trees (three Eastern
white pines, three serviceberries, three Eastern redbuds, and one Canadian red
cherry) were planted. Scott McIntyre,
grounds crew foreman, said the event marked sixth time that UPMC has donated and
planted trees in city parks in honor of Arbor Day.
